Default Sword Ranger?

One of the things I'm looking forward to most in GW2 is Rangers being able to use swords!

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on creating an effective Sword ranger in GW1?

I was thinking that you could use the dagger spammer build and just swap in a sword, not sure on what to use in the offhand though. Perhaps a focus for energy? Or would a shield be better and put some points in Tactics?

My old build looked like this,

Server Artery
Gash
Steelfang Slash
Dwarven Stability
Lightning Reflexes
"Save Yourselves!"
Throw Dirt
Feel No Pain

Although, looking at it now, it's a bit poor

I have been running a Sword Ranger in GW1.

I found it best to Use

100b
Server Artery
Gash
Dwarven Stability
Lightning Reflexes
Save Yourselves

And you can just chose what you want in the rest of the slots.

Thing is a focus wouldn't give you that much energy cause there is no way you could meet the reqs so I would have to say go with shield maybe 15 q7 tactics
and put some in. I also notice you dont have an elite and cause that build uses quite a bit of adrenaline why not dragon slash? seems like a good choice and keeps you from using more energy heavy skills, though I think you may look into using skills that require energy because as a ranger you should be able to more easily spam them. Oh as wotah says 100b is a good elite maybe instead of feel no pain you could choose ymlad or finish him. maybe even sin support.
Idk sounds fun though I am currently playing a dagger ranger but I use Experts dexterity as my Ias cause havent got dwarven stability yet.

I made my sword warrior primarily to spam SY on my heroes and be somewhat tanky.

Sever Artery
Gash
Soldier's Stance (elite)
"To the Limit!" - Quickly build some adrenaline
"For Great Justice!"
"Save Yourselves!"
"I Am the Strongest!" - Just so I can have some damage
"I Am Unstoppable!"

I find that you can use the deep wound RaO pet build, and switch out those for some sword skills. I use barbarious slice, gash, and sun and moon slash. its pretty good in pvp, both axe and swords can take monks out easy

As far as GW1 rangers go....if it isnt a spellcasting weapon, most likely your ranger can use it. I just recently made a ranger, been playing with builds...got more than a few saved, sword, axe, bow, dagger, spear....you name it. get ahold of me ingame ill ping you a few

ign-hippie wep weps(wep=pew backwards...nobody gets it)

I ran this for a bit. Can pretty much maintain a 75% IAS/Block indefinitely (via YMLAD! and OnYourKnees!).

12 Sword
9 Tactics
13 Expertise

Sup Expertise rune + headpiece
Major Vigor
Sentry Insignia and Vitae runes
16/8 Tactics Shield
+30hp shield and sword mod (I know, some prefer +5 Armor...)
96AR vs Phys (106 vs Slashing with a shield mod) and 126AR vs EL damage

536hp (forgot to switch to different armor piece in pic so less hp). With a Sup Vigor will give you a bit more.

I agree that YmlaD is great for the interrupt and knockdown. I do like Finish Him also, just for a quick kill.

I'll have a play with these ideas today and see what I come up with.
